NEW YEAR STRATEGY: CHOOSE your BATTLEGROUND carefully!
by Terry inabraham lincoln was once challenged to a duel to the death when he offended somebody.. as the one challenged, it was his right to pick the weapons and the place of battle.. lincoln's challenger was a short fellow and an expert marksman.
don't fight in magic land.. .
no, not their interpretation---the bible itself!.

It's no more insane than claiming that the "trumpet blasts" of Revelation are District Convention talks. LMAO at myself for EVER believing any of their crap.

When did this "written review" idea get started?
by james_woods infor some reason, i simply cannot remember any written review being done and graded in all my jw time (1962 to about 1980).. have i completely forgotten this, or did it get started after i had left?.

I loved the written review. It actually gave us kids something to DO at the meeting besides sit still and shut up.

Evil Spirits
by LizLA indoes anyone on this forum have knowledge about casting out demons or evil spirits?
there's at least two of them that have been harrasing me even before i was a jw.
i recently attended a deliverance church to find some help but it was apparent that the holy spirit was missing from that church.

Questions: Why don't spirits ever do anything useful, practical, or logical? And since all they ever seem to do is bother people in ridiculous and mundane ways, why insist on calling them things like intelligent and evil? They don't seem particularly bright or wicked to me, just stupid and annoying.

A couple of my favorites below:
Ulysses
Alfred Lord TennysonIt little profits that an idle king,
By this still hearth, among these barren crags,
Matched with an aged wife, I mete and dole
Unequal laws unto a savage race,
That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me.
I cannot rest from travel: I will drink
Life to the lees: all times I have enjoyed
Greatly, have suffered greatly, both with those
That loved me, and alone; on shore, and when
Through scudding drifts the rainy Hyades
Vext the dim sea: I am become a name;
For always roaming with a hungry heart
Much have I seen and known; cities of men
And manners, climates, councils, governments,
Myself not least, but honoured of them all;
And drunk delight of battle with my peers;
Far on the ringing plains of windy Troy.
I am part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethrough
Gleams that untravelled world, whose margin fades
For ever and for ever when I move.
How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!
As though to breath were life. Life piled on life
Were all to little, and of one to me
Little remains: but every hour is saved
From that eternal silence, something more,
A bringer of new things; and vile it were
For some three suns to store and hoard myself,
And this gray spirit yearning in desire
To follow knowledge like a sinking star,
Beyond the utmost bound of human thought.
This is my son, mine own Telemachus,
To whom I leave the scepter and the isle
Well-loved of me, discerning to fulfill
This labour, by slow prudence to make mild
A rugged people, and through soft degrees
Subdue them to the useful and the good.
Most blameless is he, centered in the sphere
Of common duties, decent not to fail
In offices of tenderness, and pay
Meet adoration to my household gods,
When I am gone. He works his work, I mine.
There lies the port; the vessel puffs her sail:
There gloom the dark broad seas. My mariners,
Souls that have toiled, and wrought, and thought with me
That ever with a frolic welcome took
The thunder and the sunshine, and opposed
Free hearts, free foreheads you and I are old;
Old age had yet his honour and his toil;
Death closes all: but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.
The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks:
The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep
Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in the old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are,
One equal-temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. -

Invictus by William Ernest Henley:
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul -

Putting together a brochure that debunks the "Memorial"...
by Alfred inwith "memorial season" just around the corner, i am planning to put together a small brochure (or maybe just a plain-looking document on letter-sized paper) that exposes the embarassing fact that jws still hold their "memorial" every year even though, by their own teachings, they should have had their last one in 1914. i plan to give it to the next elder who stops by to "count his time" during memorial season.
but hopefully, this will happen before they start canvassing my neighborhood since i plan to distribute it to my neighbors as well.. i've just started this morning with the following "quick draft" (but i would appreciate your comments and insight... thanks):.
jehovah's witnesses, why are you still inviting people to "the memorial"?.
-

I like the Shades of Grey approach, sort of. Not that you're telling the rank and file JW that he/she doesn't exist but that the Memorial has nothing to do with them AT ALL and so there really is no scriptural reason for them to attend.

Hi - I'm new here!
by Flicka ini have been lurking on this site for the past 2 months.
for the past few years i have been going to the meetings and doing fieldservice out of guilt.. my husband (twisty) told me regularly i only do it out of guilt but i denied it and said it i want to do these things because i love jehovah and it is the right thing to do, but how can it be the right thing if you don't feel welcome and it feels like everyone is judging you the moment you walk into the kingdom hall.. it has taken a few years and a lot of tears to open my eyes.. over the past few years twisty spoke to me about the various things he didn't agree with but it just went over my head.
a few months ago we were lying in bed and he brought up his concerns again, and i'm not sure what was different this time but i understood and agreed with the points he was making.

Welcome.
Although it all sounds pretty simple it's not like you all know. I grew up being a JW and my whole family are still in. They are not very open minded and I'm not sure how to tell them I no longer believe the organization is Jehovahs' spirit anointed organization but I guess we all learn how to deal with it over time.
You don't owe anyone an explanation about anything. If pressured about why you're not participating in the dog and pony show anymore just say that you're working on some things right now and they're personal.

Anyone know theme of 2012 DC?
I think they're going to call it "The Still Holding Breath District Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses"

"We needed to use the library"... and other wacky Watchtower excuses.
by cedars ini'm sure we're all familiar with the crazy excuse that the watch tower society leadership came up with to justify their nine year period as a un ngo (non governmental organization).
amazingly, this seems to make perfect sense with watch tower apologists, who don't stop for a moment to ponder the following:.
you don't need to be a un ngo to use the un libraryif it was so innocent for them to hold un ngo status just to use the library, why did they withdraw their status when the issue received media attention?that aside, we are now witnessing the unravelling of fresh scandals to hit the society, most notably:.

I will LMAO if it turns out these barrels were buried in the 80s or even better, the 90s. Then the "we didn't know it would hurt anything" excuse would hold even less water than it already does.
